Please note: Outlook 2001 is for Apple Macintosh systems only.

In order to configure a Mac to connect to Exchange you will need to create a hosts file. There may already be one in place if a network is being used. The hosts file for a Mac is held in the root of the System Folder.

Mac users need to use Mac Outlook 2001 which can be downloaded from Mactopia. Once downloaded and installed follow the instructions below. There is currently (as of 15/05/02) no update available for this software, and no Carbon/Cocoa version available for Mac OS X. Outlook 2001 supports all standard features of Outlook operating with Exchange.

Configuring Outlook 2001

1. Launch the application SimpleText which is normally found in the Apple Extras folder. (The Apple Extras folder is located in the Applications folder which can be found in the root of the hard drive.)

2. Type in the following:
THEXCHBEX CNAME THPDCSER.SERVICES.BYWORKWISE.COM
THPDCSER.SERVICES.BYWORKWISE.COM A 217.28.130.43

3. Select the Save option from the File menu and save it with the title of hosts in the root of the System Folder.

4. Quit SimpleText.
5. Launch the control panel TCP/IP which can be found in the Control Panels folder. (The Control Panels folder is located in the System Folder which can be found in the root of the hard drive.)

6. Select User Mode from the Edit menu, select the Advanced option and then click OK.

7. Then click on the Select Hosts File button and select the recently created hosts file from the System Folder. Click Open then OK to use the new hosts file. (You may be prompted ‘Are you sure you want to replace the Hosts file with the contents of “hosts”’)

8. Quit TCP/IP. You will be prompted "Save changes to the current configuration?": Click Save.
9. Launch Outlook.

10. Outlook 2001 will prompt for Username/Password/Domain – domain is "services". Username and Password will have been provided to you by your Administrator.

Note: Mac OS 9 does not have a built-in ping facility, although there is 3rd party software available to provide a ping capability; we recommend WhatRoute which is available for free download at Version Tracker (search for "WhatRoute").
