Setting Outlook 2000 to Corporate or Workgroup

If a user has Outlook 2000 installed and has been using it for Internet Mail (POP3) they will need to change it to ‘Corporate or Workgroup’ before running the CCT.

1. Open Outlook 2000
2. Select Tools
3. Select Options
4. Select Mail Delivery

5. Click Reconfigure Mail Support button
6. Select Corporate or Workgroup radio button

7. Click Next
8. A warning message will appear. Click OK
9. Run Client Configuration Tool. Profile will now set up

Installing the CCT

Once the customer has downloaded the CCT they will have an icon as below. It’s recommended that the customer save this to their Desktop although they can save it anywhere.

The CCT will need to be installed on each PC that is going to have MSE setup on it. The customer can pass this file across their own network rather than downloading it every time they need to put it on a new PC (the same goes for Outlook 2002).

To install CCT double click this icon. The following window will appear.

Click OK and proceed with the install.

Click Next then select a folder for install – most users are happy with the default folder although they may prefer to install to a different location. There is no need for the customer to keep the CCT once they are setup and working – they may uninstall it at a later date if they don’t want it.

Click Next once you’re happy with the location to install. The software will then install – the whole package is less than 5 Mb so it shouldn’t take more than a minute or two to install.

When it’s installed click Next to continue.

Next then close to exit. Users of older Windows OS’s should restart their machines. The CCT is now installed. There should be an icon like an American style postbox on the PC’s desktop now as follows:

Running the Client Configuration Tool

The customer should now run the CCT to configure an Outlook profile and their hosts file.
1. Double click the CCT icon

2. Click Next to create a new Outlook Profile

3. Enter the Username for the licence that you are setting up. Then click Next.

4. Click Next to choose to make a new profile. Normally the new profile should be the default profile.

5. Click Next to update the hosts file. If you’ve already run the CCT on this machine it may be unnecessary to update the hosts file – however it doesn’t do any harm to do it twice.

6. You’ll be offered a chance to review your selection. Click Next then Finish. The CCT will now create the profile for the user.

7. The CCT will connect to the MSE service and create the profile. Once this has been completed you will get a message to confirm that the profile has been setup. You can then close the CCT.

Setting up a User Profile without CCT

If a user wishes to manually create a profile without using the Client Configuration Tool, they can do so by following the steps below.

1. From Windows click Start and then Settings
2. Click Control Panel
3. Double-click the Mail icon
4. While on the Services tab, click Show Profiles
5. Click Add

6. Select the Microsoft Exchange Server check box and click Next
7. Enter a name for which the profile will be known as in Profile Name field and click Next

8. In the Microsoft Exchange Server field enter THEXCHBEX

9. In the Mailbox field enter the user’s login (eg.username@ABC)
10. Click Next, Next and Finish

Setting up the Hosts File

In order to connect to the Exchange service without using the CCT, the windows hosts file will need to have some entries made.

Search for the file ‘hosts’ and edit it using Notepad. Add the last two lines from the sample copied below then save the file.

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
217.28.130.43 THEXCHBEX # Cobweb Server Entry
217.28.130.43 THPDCSER.SERVICES.BYWORKWISE.COM # Cobweb Server Entry
